In all of Embarq’s custom homes, there is one space on the main floor that always merits special consideration during the design process: the kitchen. We take care to build amazing kitchen spaces that suit all our clients’ needs in their custom homes (chef’s kitchen anyone?), so we made a list of a few of our favorite kitchen trends right now.

Our Favorite Trends in Your Favorite Space

Contrasting Islands

A Contrasting Island – The kitchen island is now an essential part of every dream kitchen, adding prep space, serving area, and seating to one of the most used parts of your home. A contrasting island has all the perks of a kitchen island with a pop of color that sets it apart from the cabinets. It’s the perfect way to pull off a black and white kitchen, add a vibrant touch, or bring some natural wood to accent your painted cabinets.

Hidden Pantries

If you keep up with Embarq at all, you know we love hidden doors. A hidden walk-in pantry looks just like a tall cabinet with the same style and finish as all your other kitchen cabinets but opens into a spacious pantry. This is a fun way to add a walk-in right to your kitchen space without adding a door or opening, and it keeps clutter out of site by providing space for appliances and snacks that would otherwise be left on the counter.

Vent Hoods

If you keep up with Embarq at all, you know we love hidden doors. A hidden walk-in pantry looks just like a tall cabinet with the same style and finish as all your other kitchen cabinets but opens into a spacious pantry. Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are made to attach only to the wall of your kitchen to make it look like they’re floating (hence the name). For bigger kitchens, they offer an elegant storage solution instead of more upper cabinets, helping the kitchen feel more open and airier. They fit perfectly next to a custom range hood and can be painted or stained for a natural wood finish. Plus, they give you an opportunity to show off all your prettiest kitchen supplies, like a beautiful set of pots and pans, or just another spot for decoration.

Butler's Pantries

Butler’s pantries are making a comeback, earning you additional kitchen space. Originally a spot for the butler to prepare the food before a meal, they have evolved into chic extra space. A room off the kitchen, these pantries can be independent or connect the kitchen to the dining room with cabinets and counter space. Being a popular staging area, butler’s pantries sometimes have a beverage fridge or sink, and are the perfect spot to hide things away from your kitchen. They are the prefect storage spot for snacks, less used countertop appliances, and whatever else you want out of the way.
